Home Remedies and Cures on Sunshine or Suncreen

There is a lot of controversy over being out in the sunshine without sunscreen or the necessity to use sunscreen. Some naturopathic doctors say you don’t need to use sunscreen and now they are finding that sunscreen may possibly even cause cancer. Please read on for more home remedies and cures.

As I’m sure you know, for many years now, we have been told that UV rays from the sun causes skin cancer. But did you know that we cannot live without the sun? We need the vitamin D that the sun provides us with. We also need to eat plenty of natural foods that provide vitamin D.

Lack of vitamin D can cause rashes and irritations on the skin, tongue and anus as well as poor bone formation. Vitamin D shortage causes calcium metabolism in your body to be thrown off and bones begin to deteriorate. Studies show that lack of sunshine induced vitamin D is linked with diabetes, immune disfunction, prostate and breast cancer, as well. The sunshine and natural whole foods full of vitamin D are the home remedies and cures we need to help us stay healthy and strong.

On the other hand, too much sunshine can cause skin cancer, cataracts, temporary blindness, growths on the eyes called pterygia, macular degeneration and melanoma on the back of the eyeball. So we need to find a happy medium.

• When your skin turns even slightly pink – head for the shade, cover up with clothing or use sunscreen ONLY at that point.
• Using a beach umbrella – even sitting under an umbrella the UV light bounces off of the sand onto your skin. Water and snow have the same reflection, so use sunscreen or cover up with clothes.
• Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or more. Get sunscreen that is labeled “broad spectrum” and look for titanium dioxide or Parsol 1789 in the list of ingredients.
• Apply sunscreen every 2 hours, especially if you are in the water.
• Minimize sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm.
• Use UV-protective Lip Balm with an SPF 15 or higher.
• Wear UV-protective sunglasses.
• Wear sun-protective clothing.
• Wear a hat with a 3” brim.

But your best home remedies and cures for preventing skin cancer, is to eat right! Eat fish, olives, olive oil, tea, tomatoes, tomato paste and sauce, carrots, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, peas, sweet potatoes and yams, pumpkin, spinach, kale and collard greens. Eat fruit, especially citrus, red grapes, watermelon, guava and papaya and cocoa. Use stevia instead of sugar. Eat herbs like rosemary, oregano, thyme and garlic.

Just in case that’s not good enough, take supplements containing the nutrients that the foods listed above contain. Supplements to take to help prevent skin cancer are beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, flavonoids and polyphenols. Resveratrol, proanthocyanidins and polyphenols work even better when taken together. Also take vitamin C, E and B vitamins, fish oil and olive oil.

Home Remedies and Cures for Obesity

Are you overweight? Do you want to lose weight? What is your BMI (body mass index)? There are many natural home remedies and cures to help you lose weight and many different diets, not all good.

Any BMI over 25 is considered overweight, 30-39 is obese and 40 or more is extremely obese. To figure out your own BMI:
Weight (pounds) x 703
Height squared (inches)

• Multiply weight by 703: 159 lbs. x 703 = 111,777
• Multiply height in inches by height in inches: 64 x 64 = 4,096
• Divide answer in first step by the number in second step: 111,777/4,096 = 27.2
• BMI is 27.2 (found in overweight range)
Drinking water, and lots of it, is really important. It speeds up your metabolism and after drinking two glasses you start to burn fat. Drinking two liters of water a day will help you lose five pounds a year.

When eating out at restaurants, some natural home remedies and cures for losing weight are avoiding the bread baskets at the beginning and desserts at the end of the meal. Avoid breads altogether. Have tomato juice or a shrimp cocktail instead. Or eat an apple or low fat yogurt before eating out. You won’t be so hungry that way.

Home Remedies and Cures for ADHD Part 2

Last week I talked about the symptoms and causes of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This week I will discuss the natural home remedies and cures you can use to help ease the severity of ADHD.

As I have said before, diet is the number one most important thing to keeping your body well and feeling good. Buy fresh foods and prepare them yourself for your child with ADHD and the whole family. You will all be healthier from the effort. B vitamins are found in brown rice, brewer’s yeast and leafy green vegetables and are healing to stressed-out nerves.

Changing to a healthy diet is the first and very important step to natural home remedies and cures. Prepare and eat soy products, live unsweetened yogurt, whole grains and organic turkey and chicken. These have tryptophan in them which encourages the production of serotonin, a chemical that produces a sense of calm. Also a good snack before bedtime.

Provide plenty of protein with meals, such as nuts, legumes, lean poultry and fish. Eating smaller, more frequent meals and snacks, every 2 to 3 hours, works best and keeps the metabolism going. Don’t skip breakfast, as it sets the biochemical balance for the rest of the day.

Regularly serve brain-healthy foods, such as fish (trout, salmon, halibut, sardines), nuts (walnuts, almonds) and ground flaxseed, all of which are very good home remedies and cures.

Fish Oil - take 2,000 mg. or more of combined EPA and DHA daily, improves ADHD symptoms and learning
Phosphatidylserine - take 300 to 500 mg. daily for three months. A maintenance dosage of 100 to 300 mg. may be effective for some kids and adults. It helps brain cells function properly. In 90% of cases attention and learning were most improved in studies.


Pycnogenol - take 1 mg. per 4.9 pounds of body weight per day. Found to have significant reduction of hyperactivity and improved attention, visual-motor coordination and concentration.
L-carnitine - take 100 mg. per 2.2 pounds of body weight daily.
High-potency multivitamin - take as directed on container.
Calcium and magnesium complex - take a combination of these two minerals at a dosage of 500 mg. of calcium and 250 mg. of magnesium twice daily. These two minerals relax the nervous system.
Probiotics - as directed on bottle to maintain good bacteria levels in the digestive tract.
Vitamin B6 - take 100 mg. daily for children five years and older along with a B-complex for balance.
Ginkgo Biloba - look for a product standardized to 24% flavone glycosides. Sixteen and older should take 60 to 120 mg. twice daily. Children ages 10 to 15 take 30 to 60 mg. twice daily and 10 years and under take 15 to 30 mg. twice daily. It brings oxygen and nutrients to the brain.
GABA - take 250 mg. two to three times daily between meals. It is an amino acid that has a calming effect on the mind.
Zinc - children ages two and older should take a total of 10 to 15 mg. daily along with 2 mg. of copper. A zinc deficiency can contribute to ADHD symptoms.
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) - can be effective in calming children. Children 16 years and older should take 100 to 200 mg. twice a day. Those 10 to 15 take 50 to 100 mg. twice a day and under 10 take 25 to 50 mg. twice daily.
St. John’s-wort (Hypericum perforatum) may help with depression. Ages 10-15 take 50 to 150 mg. twice a day. Under ten should take 25-75 mg. twice a day and 16 and older can take 100 to 300 mg. twice a day.

See a homeopathic practitioner for special symptoms such as tending to be cruel to animals, impulsive and violent, major temper tantrums, fear of the dark or animals and so on. There are natural home remedies for these as well, but they need to be under a doctor’s care.

Other home remedies are acupressure, massage, reflexology, craniofacial therapy, aromatherapy, biofeedback and yoga. Other recommendations would be to encourage children to play or exercise outside in the fresh air and limit sedentary, passive activities.

Consider buying an air filter to purify your house of environmental allergens. Also, you might consider working with a counselor to help your child with behavior modifications and learning styles.

ADHD is not an easy thing to live with but there are many natural home remedies and cures to help starting with changing to a healthy whole foods diet. Hope this helps someone in need.

Home Remedies and Cures for ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects around 5.4 million children between the ages of 4 to 17, about 13.2% of boys and 5.6% of girls. Three percent to seven percent of school age children have ADHD, but studies have estimated higher rates. There are quite a few different ways to treat ADHD naturally with home remedies and cures.

Living with ADHD children or adults is difficult, I know, I have three children, one boy and two girls, that were diagnosed with ADHD, out of seven children. My youngest daughter was a human guinea pig for prescriptions, because of other complications she had. Back then, I didn’t know enough about natural home remedies and cures. I wish I had.

People with ADHD usually have a hard time paying attention; daydream; don’t seem to listen; are easily distracted; forget things; seem to be in constant motion, even pacing; unable to stay seated; squirm and fidget; talk too much and interrupt; act and speak without thinking; and have trouble taking turns. But don’t worry, there are home remedies and cures to help calm the symptoms of ADHD.

Diet does play a key role in the reason children seem to have these symptoms. For the last several decades, sugars, dyes and preservatives have been added to our food at an increasing rate. Children, now days, consume too many convenience foods, such as hot dogs, fried chicken fingers/nuggets and highly sweetened fruit drinks and sodas. Home Remedies and Cures for Osteoarthritis

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis. The cartilage between the joints begins to break down and wear away, causing pain and stiffness. Heavy use of the joint isn’t necessarily what causes the problem. But there are plenty of ways to alleviate the pain and stiffness it causes with natural home remedies and cures.

Like everything else, diet has a lot to do with how you feel. Eat a healthy diet that includes whole, unprocessed foods with no added sugar, no soft drinks, no chemical additives, flavorings, coloring or preservatives. Eat whole grains (if you’re not sensitive or allergic to them), no artificial sweeteners and little alcohol. Avoid caffeine. As always, eating natural foods (natural home remedies and cures) is best.

Doctors have found that some people are sensitive to nightshade plants. Nightshade vegetables include tomatoes, potatoes, peppers (including paprika, but not black pepper), eggplants and tobacco. The sensitivity is not an allergy, but a progressive loss of the ability to metabolize substances known as “solanine alkaloids,” found in all nightshade vegetables.

You may want to eliminate these nightshade vegetables in your diet for at least three to four months to see if there is any significant difference in your pain and movement. Trial and error is the only way to see if these vegetables affect you.

For natural home remedies and cures to help stimulate the growth of new joint cartilage, try taking 500 milligrams of glucosamine sulfate three times a day. It may take three to four weeks for pain relief to begin. If you have diabetes, check with your doctor first. Glucosamine may affect your blood sugar, but probably not.
Niacinamide (not niacin) can control the pain and swelling of osteoarthritis. Take 1,000 mg. of niacinamide three times a day. Be sure to take it three times a day and you should feel results in three to four weeks.

Here’s a list of home remedies and cures to take for osteoarthritis:
Niacinamide - 1,000 mg. three times a day
Boron - 3 mg. twice daily (useful in treating osteoarthritis and preventing cancer)
SAMe - 400 mg. once or twice daily
Willow Bark - two to four doses per day (of tablets containing 400 mg. of willow bark extract and 60 mg. of Salicin)
Myristin - six capsules per day for 80 days (can be found at natural food stores and compounding pharmacies)

Changing your diet to a healthy diet will really help improve your symptoms of osteoarthritis and anything else that ails you. Using the listed home remedies and cures will greatly give relief to osteoarthritis.

Home Remedies and Cures and TSFL Part 2

Home Remedies and Cures and Take Shape For Life

This article will be a little different. I’ve always written about home remedies and cures for whatever ails you. And I have been very happy with the results I have had by using all natural home remedies and cures for all of my health problems.

In January, I went to a couple of meetings for Take Shape For Life with a couple of friends. There were 1500 people at the Friday night meeting and 1000 at the all day Saturday meeting. Home Remedies and Cures with Policosanol for High Blood Pressure/Cholesterol

High blood pressure and high cholesterol are very common health problems in our society. But you don’t need to use harmful prescription drugs to lower either one. There are natural home remedies and cures to use that really work and cost a lot less to purchase than prescription drugs and are safer for you to use.

According to Dr. Jonathan Wright, one of alternative medicine’s most respected physicians, statin drugs may “poison your liver and weaken your heart, raise blood pressure and lower levels of lifesaving HDL, the good cholesterol.” He found policosanol “proved to work seven times stronger than statins” without the harmful side effects. Poli
cosanol is made from wax secretions of sugarcane, yams and others natural plants. Whenever possible, it’s best to use natural home remedies and cures and policosanol is a good natural one.

Home Remedies and Cures for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis affects around 50% of women between the ages of 45 and 70 in the United States. It is usually brought on by bad diet and lifestyle habits. It can be controlled and reversed with natural home remedies and cures.

After age 30, bones begin to weaken. Some bone loss is normal, but when the density of bone mass starts to turn porous and brittle, then bones could start breaking.

Men can get osteoporosis too but usually at an older age and not as many as women. Men have bigger and denser bones than women. They are substantially under diagnosed. Men over 50 should be assessed for osteoporosis.

Due to lack of exercise and a poor diet, many women are already losing bone in their twenties. Menopausal women start losing bone mass due to low estrogen and progesterone levels. Hormonal balance is important for good bone density. Home remedies and cures will help.

Early signs of osteoporosis could be gradual loss of height, gum disease and/or loose teeth, sudden insomnia and restlessness, nightly leg and foot cramps and persistent low back pain. Other symptoms are a stooped posture, dowager’s hump, sleeves and hems that used to fit but that now are too long and easily broken bones.

It’s been found that depression raises the risk of osteoporosis. In a study of a group young women who had suffered depression, they found their bone density to be 6% to 14% lower than those that never had depression. Home remedies and cures can help depression too.

Another risk factor for osteoporosis is prematurely gray hair. It has been found that people whose hair went more than half gray by age 40 were four times more likely to develop osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis may have a direct link to heart disease. *“Calcium lost from bones may in turn be stored in the arteries, which may contribute to the formation of plaque.” Be sure to get plenty of exercise and get on a prevention plan for osteoporosis and boost your calcium intake.

Researchers may have an antibiotic for treating osteoporosis someday. They have studied the effects of minocycline. It increases bone density and actually prevents bone loss. However, high doses of minocycline can be toxic to the liver. Better stick with home remedies and cures. They are safer.

In a study, it was found that eating 12 prunes a day increased blood levels of enzymes and growth factors indicative of bone formation. Only one of many great home remedies.

There are foods that should be avoided. Eliminate sugar, refined grains and soda pop. Do not eat processed foods. These are not natural home remedies or cures. Reduce your intake of red meat and salt. Moderate your use of caffeine and alcohol.

Calcium from cow’s milk is not well absorbed. *“Milk products lead to other health problems as well, so don’t rely on them as a source of calcium. Unsweetened, cultured yogurt is an exception.”

*“A 12-year study of more than 77,000 women found that those who drank more than 14 glasses of milk a week had 45% more hip fractures as compared to women who consumed 1 glass a week or less.”

Recommended Diet
Eat anti-inflammatory foods like dark, leafy green vegetables, such as lettuce, spinach and broccoli. Also eat fruits, nuts, seeds, fish rich in omega-3 (such as wild salmon), sardines and lean poultry. A pH-balanced diet is highly recommended. These are great natural home remedies and cures for almost anything that ails you.

Consuming fermented soy foods and protein powders increase bone formation. Also sea vegetables are high in calcium and helpful. Natural home remedies and cures are so much better for you than man-made drugs.

Don’t take calcium supplements made from bone meal or dolomite. They contain arsenic and lead. Get your calcium from food, juice or use a calcium citrate supplement which requires less stomach acid for absorption.

New federal guidelines tell us adults over 50 need to take 1,200 mg. of calcium a day. Under 50 should take 1,000 mg. a day, adolescents 1,300 mg.

A deficiency in B-12 is linked to osteoporosis. It is crucial to the function of osteoblasts (bone-forming cells).

Recommendations
Calcium (citrate, citrate-malate. Chelate or hydroxyapatite) - take 500 to 600 mg. twice daily
Magnesium - 250-350 mg. twice daily
Vitamin D3 - 5,000 IU daily with a meal
Vitamin K - 2-10 mg. daily up to 500 mcg. Daily
Strontium - 680 mg. daily
Essential fatty acid - 4 grams of fish oil daily along with 3,000 mg. of Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera biennis)
Silicon - 50-20 mg. daily
Also recommended is a high-potency multivitamin.

Cautions
Bisphosphonates, which include Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, Didronel and Reclast are prescribed to women and men to treat osteoporosis. They are used to stimulate osteoblasts (the bone-forming cells) to slow down bone loss. These are man-made drugs, not natural home remedies or cures.

The possible side effects are heartburn, irritation of the esophagus, gastric ulcer, abdominal pain, headache, pain in muscles and joints, digestive disturbances and allergic reactions. Natural home remedies and cures don’t cause all of these side effects unless you ate something that you are allergic to.

Merck & Co. released a statement concerning the use of Fosamax in a new study it **“has material methodological flaws and scientific limitations, making it unreliable as a source for valid scientific conclusions regarding the prevalence of ONJ (osteonecrosis of the jaw) in patients taking alendronate.” Alendronate is Fosamax. There have been many cases of people who have taken Fosamax and did develop osteonecrosis of the jaw.

A group of physicians at Cornell University discovered that Fosamax caused fractures of the Femur thighbone and the breaks happened without suffering from falls or trauma.

In 2008 the FDA reported that Fosamax and other bisphosphonates could cause great incapacitating pain in bones, joints and/or muscles for unknown reasons. So many reasons why we should use natural home remedies and cures instead of man-made drugs.

It was also found that postmenopausal women who had used but stopped using Fosamax were at higher risk for atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm problem.

As I have found with most other health issues, it is so much safer to use natural home remedies and cures to treat your health problems. Osteoporosis can be slowed down or cured with a good healthy diet and all natural supplements.

Home Remedies and Cures - Cataracts Pt. 2

Last week I talked about some of the causes and symptoms of cataracts. Today I will give you more symptoms and causes and what home remedies and cures you can eat and take to either stop and reverse the problem or cure it.

Symptoms:
Cataracts could begin before you even realize it and then over time it gradually gets worse:
*Blurring of details
*Blurring of larger objects
*Temporary improvement of farsightedness
*Darkening of vision
*Change in color perception
*Blindness
*Difficulty driving at night

Root Causes:
*Exposure to ultraviolet or infrared light
*Injury in the eye
*Poor diet, especially one low in antioxidants
*Obesity
*Long-term use of steroids
*Poor digestion
*Diabetes
*Smoking
*Down’s Syndrome
*Radiation
*Heredity
*Heavy Metal Poisoning
*Pharmaceutical medications

Now for the home remedies and cures to prevent or slow down the process of cataracts. You need to avoid white flour, sugary foods, processed foods and fried foods. Include in your diet antioxidants that fight free radicals, such as dark-green leafy vegetables, bell peppers, yellow squash, carrots, tomatoes, celery, sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli, oranges, red grapes, mangoes, melons, legumes and whole grains.

Always wear UV-blocking sunglasses when outside. For those that are still young, get into the habit of wearing sunglasses in your 20’s and 30’s. Your body needs lots of vitamin D for various reasons, so you need to get at least 15 minutes a day of sunshine, whenever possible.

If you don’t get enough vitamins and minerals from what you eat, you will need to supplement your diet. I would suggest that you get a really good plant-based multi-vitamin, they’re not cheap but probably worth it.

There are quite a few natural home remedies and cures that will help to slow down the progression of cataracts or prevent you from getting them if you start early enough. I may not list them all, but will list a bunch and the ones I think will help most:
*N-acetylcarnosine eye drops (NAC) - Apply to affected eyes twice a day Use under the care of a doctor. This is for those that already have cataracts (available on the internet)
*Vitamin C - take 1000 mg. two to three times daily
*Gentian root (Gentiana lutea) or betaine HCL - take 250 mg. Gentian root with meals and 1 or 2 capsules of betaine with meals
*Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) - 160 mg. two to three times daily of a 25% anthocyanosides extract
*B Complex - 50 mg. daily. Especially B2 and B3
*Vitamin E - 400 IU daily with tocotrienols and tocopherols
*Mixed carotenoid complex - 25,000 IU one or two times daily
*Vitamin A - not beta-carotene - 40,000 IU daily
*Quercetin and rutin - 1000 to 1500 mg. daily
*Magnesium at bedtime, 300-400 mg.
*Coenzyme Q10 - 90-200 mg. daily
*Carnitine - 500 mg. three times daily
*Selenium - 200 mcg. Daily
*N-acetyl cysteine - 500 mg. two to three times daily
*Zinc - 10-15 mg. a day
*Clinical Nutrients for the Eyes (Hachimi-jio-gan) - 150 mg. daily (available on the internet)

All of these home remedies and cures are available on the internet or at natural health food stores. Our eyes are very important to us. There are surgeries for those that wait too long to care for their eyes, but hopefully you won’t wait too long to try to prevent surgeries. Try out the home remedies and cures first.

Home Remedies and Cures for Cataracts - Pt. 1

It may surprise you, but the progression of cataracts can be stopped and possibly even cured with home remedies and cures. People who eat white flour breads, pastas, sugary foods, processed foods and other foods high on the glycemic index (GI - a measurement of how quickly a food boosts blood sugar levels), were 29% more likely to develop cataracts than those who eat more healthy foods. High glycemic foods damage the lens of the eyes due to higher sugar levels.

Glaucoma, cataracts and many other health problems are caused by the lack of stomach acid. A person must improve their stomach’s digestive system before they can improve their health. This can be done with natural home remedies and cures.

Cataracts are the leading cause of loss of eye sight in America and worldwide. If caught soon enough in the early stages, you can reverse the progression and prevent them altogether. About 40,000 Americans go blind every year from cataracts. Yet, with home remedies and cures, you can prevent it or slow it down.

Most of these cases fall under the category of “senile cataracts,” as doctors will call it. These are lens spots that commonly accompany old age. They are caused by damage from free radicals, the unbalanced, destructive molecules that destroy cells in the body. Too much sun exposure, poor diet and smoking are all primary causes of free radicals. Changing these habits can prevent and sometimes stop development of cataracts. Feed your body more antioxidants, they fight free radicals.

Cataracts cause a cloudiness in vision. Vision starts out to appear cloudy or blurry. Eventually colors may look faded or washed out. You might start having trouble seeing distant objects. Glare makes it harder to see to drive at night. And you will probably need more light than you used to for close work and reading.

Sunlight causes an increase in the rate at which harmful free radicals are produced in the eye, which in turn can cause eye disease and others. The first hour of sunlight in the morning and last hour of sunlight at the end of the day are the safest times to gaze at the sun briefly. Wear sunglasses the rest of the time on sunny days.

Home Remedies and Cures for PMS and Irregular Periods

Believe it or not, there are natural home remedies and cures that either cure PMS or at least greatly relieve the symptoms. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms begin one to two weeks before a woman’s menstrual flow. The following list are symptoms women may experience:
Headache
Poor concentration
Fatigue
Water retention & weight gain
Depression
Bloating, constipation, diarrhea
Mood swings,(irritability or anger, crying spells)
Food cravings & change in appetite
Breast tenderness
Insomnia
Joint or muscle pain
Social withdrawal
Acne

A severe form of PMS called premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD, interferes with a woman’s ability to carry out daily activities and functions. Root causes of PMS and PMDD are:
Hormonal imbalances
Hypoglycemia
Poor diet
Thyroid problems
Food allergies
Environmental toxins (e.g., pesticides)
Poor liver function
Seasonal affective disorder
Nutritional deficiencies
Stress
Depression

As with most health problems, diet has a lot to do with symptoms. A diet that is mostly focused on plant foods leads to less circulating estrogen, thus decreasing one’s susceptibility to PMS. Avoid saturated fat (red meat and dairy products), trans-fatty acids, like margarine and hydrogenated oils. Also avoid sugar, sodium and processed foods, caffeine and alcohol.

Besides a change in your diet, you can try these other home remedies and cures. I found at least two more pages of home remedies and cures in all of my research, but will only list some of the better ones here.

Vitex, (Chasteberry) has proven to be very helpful for PMS and PMDD. Take daily for at least 3 months, 180 to 240 mg. in capsule form. Do not take in combination with birth control pills.

Taking 1000-1200 mg. of calcium (carbonate) daily has also proven to reduce PMS symptoms.

Dong quai is helpful for menopause, irregular menstruation and PMS. It also seems to give women more energy. You should notice a difference in a month or two. Take 300-500 mg. capsules twice a day.

Magnesium has shown to help a variety of PMS symptoms such as mood changes, fluid retention and migraine headaches. Take 500-750 mg. daily, especially during the two weeks before menstrual flow.

Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) has been noted to make a significant improvement in several mood and physical symptoms of PMS. Take 400 IU daily.

Here is one more group of home remedies and cures to try. To eliminate most PMS symptoms for most women, take 1500 mg. of L-tryptophan (twice daily between meals with a small amount of orange juice) along with 50-100 mg. of vitamin B6, 100-150 mg. magnesium and for some, 2 grams of gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) daily. L-tryptophan competes with other amino acids for absorption so you must take it at least one hour before or one hour after a meal. You do have to get a doctor’s prescription for L-tryptophan even though it is a natural substance.

This amino acid is essential to the body, but in the early 1990s the FDA banned it for over-the-counter sales due to contamination caused by a mistake in genetic engineering.

Irregular Periods

There are natural home remedies and cures you can take to help those irregular periods. Some women will have a period one month and skip the next or just not knowing what day to expect it. Vitex can help regulate your cycle by affecting the part of the brain that controls the release of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Take 1 to 2 teaspoons of Vitex daily. If this doesn’t regulate your cycle, see your doctor for tests.

Aromatherapy treatments with marjoram massage oil may help. The oil, which you can purchase at an herb shop, is massaged onto the lower abdomen at regular intervals. Some women notice a mild sedative effect as well.

Losing weight for most women that are overweight seems to help regulate periods. Drink lots of water, 6 to 8 glasses a day, exercise and try taking 50 mg. a day of vitamin B6.

As I said before, these are only a few but the better home remedies and cures that I found for PMS and irregular periods. But there are many more.

Home Remedies and Cures for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding/Cramps

Some women have abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding accompanied by painful clotting and cramping. There’s a risk of anemia and one may feel weak, tired or sick for several days at a time every month. However, there are natural home remedies and cures to take to help this condition.

Mainstream doctors don’t have many effective ways to treat the problem. There are generally three options that they recommend, birth control pills, a procedure called a “D & C” or a hysterectomy. None of these are natural home remedies or very good choices.

There is a natural treatment that most mainstream doctors just don’t know about. Recommended by Jonathan V. Wright, M.D., take 50,000 units of vitamin A (not beta-carotene) daily and within one to two months a normal bleeding pattern should return.

Take 50,000 units of vitamin A daily for at least 30 days, then reduce the amount to 15,000 to 25,000 units daily to prevent recurrence. Just think how much easier, cheaper and safer this natural cure would be.

Be sure to have a gynecologist check for fibroids and/or other structural or functional abnormality before trying any treatment. As long as your doctor finds no physical problem causing the heavy menstrual bleeding, then natural home remedies and cures is definitely the way to go.

Ease Menstrual Cramps

If you have painful monthly menstrual cramps, there is a natural way to help. You may need to change your diet. There are certain foods to avoid: dairy products, fats, salt, alcohol, sugar and caffeine. All of these can make cramping more severe.

Natural home remedies and cures you can take to help relieve the cramps are taking magnesium and vitamin B6 and D3 (omega-3 fatty acids). Take these continuously for eventual relief.

These same home remedies and cures should also ease ovulation pain (mittleschmerz) which happens during the middle of the monthly cycle before your period. Many women suffer from that pain even more than from the bleeding time of their cycle.

Natural Home Remedies and Cures for Migraines

Migraines are very common. They affect 18% of women and 6% of men, about 26 million Americans and without treatment, they can recur year after year. They can also be hereditary, as I know. I suffered from menstrual migraines for 40 years and all three of my daughters have them too. Migraines can be treated with natural home remedies and cures.

*"A typical migraine:
  • Occurs on one side of the head
  • Is of moderate to severe intensity
  • Interferes with daily activity
  • Is exacerbated by physical activity like coughing, walking or climbing stairs
  • Is accompanied by nausea, vomiting or sensitivity to light and sound"
Even though the migraine predisposition is inherited, most attacks are triggered by diet or environment:
  • Alcohol (especially beer and red wine)
  • Erratic meals and sleep schedules
  • Aspartame (Nutra Sweet)
  • Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
  • Processed meats and foods containing the preservatives nitrates or nitrites
  • Aged cheeses anb other foods containing the amino acid tyramine
  • Chocolate (contains phenylethylamine)
  • Perfumes or cigarette smoke
  • Stress
  • Caffeine
  • Allergies
  • Sugar
  • Changes in weather, unexpected high temperatures, barometric pressure, humidity
The exact cause of migraine headaches is unknown, but it's believed that the attack starts in the brain, where pain receptors become activated when arteries widen and become inflamed.

There are prescription drugs that people can get now for migraines but I will not list those here. I believe in using natural home remedies and cures when at all possible for ailments because they are safer and don't usually cause bad side effects. Prescription drugs are man made.

People with poor sleep habits tend to get more migraines than those that sleep well. Scientific research has shown that those who received counseling on good sleep habits, adhering to a specific schedule of going to bed and rising, had a 29% decrease in headache frequency and a 40% decrease in headache intensity.

It might be wise to keep a food diary of everything you ate and drank at least the last 24 hours before coming down with a migraine to try to figure out what might be a trigger for you. Avoid sugar, caffeine (the biggest trigger), food additives and dyes in prepared foods, all that could be triggers.

The next two natural home remedies and cures that I found might be worth trying. First is acupuncture. It has been found to relieve pain. You may feel relief at once from the rush of endorphins, the body's natural painkiller, induced by acupuncture. But in order to treat the underlying problem causing your migraines, you may need to schedule as many as 15 treatments.

At the first sign of a migraine coming on, dip the flat end of a toothpick into cayenne pepper and sniff a little bit into each nostril. Cayenne pepper offers natural pain relief and is a good source of magnesium which helps ward off migraines.

The next few natural home remedies and cures have been found to work well for migraines. Magnesium helps reduce the amount of episodes and severity. In a study with a group using magnesium supplements, 56% reported fewer migraines. Use magnesium oxide or chelated magnesium to be effective.

Feverfew works to inhibit histamines and serotonin in the brain which is partly responsible for those agonizing headaches. It can also prevent future episodes. The most effective way to use feverfew is to use the tincture made from fresh leaves (steeped in alcohol) or look for a prepared product containing sufficient concentration (0.2%) of the active ingredient, parthenolide. Mix 1 teaspoon with water in a cup and drink. Or take 3 4 capsules of 125 mg. daily every 3-4 hours or as needed.

Knock out migraine headaches naturally with these home remedies and cures. Take:
  • Vitamin E
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2) 400 mg. a day
  • Vitamin B-6, 50 mg. a day
  • Magnesium, 300 mg.
  • Feverfew, 100 mg.
For best absorption, take half of the daily dose twice a day, with meals. If you are on blood thinners, consult with your doctor first. Avoid triggers: certain foods, drinks, caffeine and activites. Get exercise, enough sleep and schedule quiet time.

As many of you know, migraines are miserable and it's great to know that there are natural home remedies and cures that can help. I wish I had known all of this when I was suffering from them myself. But now you know.

Natural Home Remedies and Cures with Policosanol for High Blood Pressure/Cholesterol

High blood pressure and high cholesterol are very common health problems in our society. But you don’t need to use harmful prescription drugs to lower either one. There are natural home remedies and cures to use that really work and cost a lot less to purchase than prescription drugs and are safer for you to use.

According to Dr. Jonathan Wright, one of alternative medicine’s most respected physicians, statin drugs may “poison your liver and weaken your heart, raise blood pressure and lower levels of lifesaving HDL, the good cholesterol.” He found policosanol “proved to work seven times stronger than statins” without the harmful side effects. Natural Home Remedies and Cures - GERD

Many people in our country suffer from acid reflux or as the medical profession calls it "GERD". It is miserable to live with. I was treated for it many years with prescription drugs, such as Tagamet, Prilosec and others. Prilosec was the only one that worked well for me, but none of them cure the problem. And it caused me to have IBS and I also found out that it causes bone loss. To make things worse, I found out that I had Osteoporosis pretty bad at a fairly young age. This is why we need to find natural home remedies and cures to treat our problems with if at all possible.



The symptoms of GERD are constant heartburn, nausea and regurgitation. Prolonged symptoms without the help of natural home remedies and cures can cause more serious problems. You can get super enzymes at a health food store and try that like I did. It helped me but not good enough. So I started taking Ultimate Digestion Support by Real Advantage Nutrients. That has helped me much better. Take 1 to 3 capsules daily with a meal, depending on what you need. It contains plant-source digestive enzymes, a probiotic blend and a prebiotic blend. Instead of Tums to chew on between meals when your chest starts to bother you, chew on DGL, deglycyrrhizinated licorice root extract. It helps soothe the esophagus.

Natural Home Remedies and Cures - Allergies

If at all possible, it is always best to treat yourself with natural home remedies and cures than with prescription drugs and surgeries. More and more doctors are coming around to this concept. Developed "unnatural" medicines just are not as good for the body as natural home remedies and cures.



In talking about the FDA using natural home remedies and minerals, Dr. Jonathan V. Wright said "There's just no money in it. Natural cures can't be patented and marked up a thousand percent. That's why drug manufacturers spend so much time and effort promoting expensive patented medicines instead of educating doctors about the vast universe of safe and proven natural (home) remedies that are all around us. It's all about profit."



Many, many people have allergies either part of the year or year round. Some have seasonal problems with itchy eyes and throat, sneezing and a runny nose and some have perennial allergies from dust, feathers and animal dander. Jamison Starbuck, ND, a naturopathic physician in Missoula, Montana has listed her natural home remedies and cures to fight allergies.

Natural Home Remedies and Cures - Cancer

Have you ever wondered what your prescription drugs are doing to your body besides the results for which they were prescribed? Almost all drugs cause side effects of some sort but some can cause serious side effects. So then you have to decide whether the risk out weighs the benefits. When I found out the side effects of some of my prescription drugs, I decided I needed to find some natural home remedies or cures for my problems and stop all prescriptions.

Natural Home Rememdies and Cures #1

A doctor, I'm not. But, like most everyone else, I have had my health problems and don't like the side effects that most of the prescription drugs have caused. So I signed up for a few health newsletters and have filled two 3" 3-ring notebooks to the max with information I have gathered and more. I receive a lot of really interesting and mind boggling information from all of these sources: Health Sciences Institute (HSI), Institute For Vibrant Living (IVL), Bottomline/Health, Nutrition & Healing and Health e-Tips, HSI eAlert, Life Extension, NorthStar Team/Real Advantage Nutrients, Swanson and The Douglas Report. I get e-mails from these sites everyday. There's got to be some home remedies and cures that are natural and better for a body than drugs that the FDA makes. I fear the FDA is more concerned about making money than caring about the side effects their products cause people.

Just look at all of the different cultures around the world. They all have their special natural home remedies and cures for different illnesses/diseases or injuries. Scientists are discovering natural home remedies and cures for different diseases all of the time now, including even for cancer, so they say. A lot of these discoveries are due to the natural home remedies and cures that these cultures use.

Years ago when I was raising all of my kids, I suffered from migraine headaches and the doctor gave me prescription motrin. I took it for years and gradually used it for arthritis. Then I developed acid reflux or GERD and needed Tagemet. I stopped the motrin and started using a lot of Tylenol. Switched the Tagemet to Prilosec and have used it for years. And the doctor also put me on pills for arthritis because Tylenol just didn't take care of the pain. In the mid 90's, the arch in my left foot broke and never got casted because I didn't know that it broke because I didn't do anything unusual to break it. I went to the doctor too late. Between the pain in that foot and both arthritic knees, I was in a lot of pain. Boy, did I need some natural home remedies and cures!

Finally around 2004, I had reconstructive surgery on my foot and had both knees totally replaced in the last 3 years. So the pain is finally under control without pills! In the mean time, I came down with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and broke both legs, both feet, the left foot again in a different place, and my right wrist twice. I came down with Osteoporosis pretty badly at a young age. I blame it all on all the drugs! From everything I've been reading from all of the newsletters on natural home remedies, several of the drugs I had been taking, including Fosamax and my asthma steroidal medication, Q-Var, I feel that they all caused my bone loss and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

So I decided I needed to do something different. It just was not healthy for me to be taking all those drugs. I totally quit taking all of the prescription drugs that my doctor had me on. I retired last summer from my job of 26 1/2 years and have been reading and trying a lot of different home remedies from health food stores and from the natural home remedies and cures offered from doctors in the news letters that I get.

Policosanol was one of the first really great natural home remedies and cures I found. My doctor thought I had high blood pressure. I probably did thanks to my job, which was very stressful, and my marriage. Policosanol prevents high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, high cholesterol and tooth decay! And it is made naturally from sugar cane and is cheap. And guess what? It really works! My blood pressure is great now. Policosanol can be found at natural health food stores and Swansons.

Giving up Prilosec was the hardest thing to do. I have GERD really bad. I was taking Now Super Enzymes and DGL German Chocolate flavored, made from deglycyrrhizinated licorace root that I'd gotten at a natural health food store. I switched to Ultimate Digestion Support by Real Advantage. This is working a lot better for me and I take DGL to chew on only when I need to. It really helps to sooth the esophagus when I eat something tomatoey, spicy or chocolatety. And I got rid of my Irritable Bowel Syndrome! Two more great all natural home remedies and cures.

And then of course, there is the problem with my bones breaking so much. I have been taking Fosamax for 10 years as well as taking lots of calcium, D3, vitamin K and magnesium for a long time trying to make my bones stronger. Mark Stengler, ND, adjunct associate clinical professor at the National College of Natural Medicine said physicians at Weill Medical College of Cornell University found that Fosamax may increase risk for femur (thighbone) fractures. Also Parish Sedghizadeh, DDS, MS, assistant professor of clinical dentistry, University of Southern California School of Dentistry said his clinic is seeing 1-4 new cases a week of jaw necrosis as compared to one a year in the past, all patients taking fosamax. I'm hoping now that I have quit taking all of those destructive drugs and am now on natural home remedies that my bones will get stronger. We shall see. I certainly do feel better now and my asthma is doing fine now too. Time will tell.
